PATNA: A 12-year-old schoolboy in Bihar lost his life when some students pushed him from the front bench in class and he fell hitting his head on the floor.

Qamar Irfan, a Class 5 student of Sarda Convent School in Darbhanga district's Manihas village, died on Thursday.

Police said Qamar was forcibly pushed off the bench by students in a fight over who would sit in the front row.

According to family members, Qamar rushed into the class as soon as school opened and sat on the front bench.

This was objected to by another student who came late and asked him to vacate the seat for him. Qamar refused, resulting in a heated exchange of words and then a scuffle.

A group of boys started beating him and pushed him. He was unconscious after the fall and died on the way to hospital, said his disconsolate father Mohammed Irfan.

The post mortem report confirmed that Qamar died due to brain haemorrhage.
