MUMBAI: The Indian Cricket Board on Monday hit out at former coach John Wright for his controversial comments on the country's selection policy.

"What does John Wright know about India? He comes from a small country which does not have the huge number of cricketers which we have. We have been doing a very good job over a number of years," Board Secretary Niranjan Shah said from Rajkot.

"It's a democratic process. What's wrong in selectors backing players from their region if they know their potential? Do not our Members of Parliament talk about issues concerning their region in the House?" he asked.

"He's talking about Gavaskar helping the players as the team's batting consultant even though he was present as the coach. He should have raised the issue then and not kept mum if he was not happy.

"He should have raised the issues when he was in the job and not after having made a good packet as compensation. What's the use of talking now," Shah said.

Wright has let out some sensational inside information regarding his much-speculated relationship with deposed captain Sourav Ganguly and controversial selection decisions in his just-published book 'Indian Summers'.

Wright has said in the book that it was Ganguly who masterminded the appointment of cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar as batting consultant for India's home series against Australia in 2004-05, without taking him into confidence.
