PATNA: Buckling under pressure from the Bihar Women's Commission, Bollywood singer Udit Narayan on Friday flew into the city and was locked in talks with Ranjana Jha, who claimed that the singer had "accepted" her as his spouse.

Jha, who claims to be Narayan's first wife, said that negotiations were proceeding in the "right direction" and that the singer had "accepted" her as his wife.

"He has accepted the fact that I am his first wife. How can he deny this?" she told journalists before returning to the VIP lounge, apparently to complete the unfinished talks with Narayan, who is scheduled to catch a flight back to Mumbai at around 9 pm.

"I am confident the issue will be amicably resolved," she said.

Asked if the singer was prepared to take her along, Ranjana avoided a direct reply saying, "How can I go with him today. I have not come prepared for it."

Narayan, who had failed to appear before the Bihar Women's Commission for the sixth time last Wednesday, arrived at the Patna airport and was joined by Ranjana in the VIP lounge which was barred to the media.

Bihar Women's Commission chairperson Manju Prakash had on Wednesday given a week to Udit Narayan on his petition for an "out of court settlement" and "meaningful" reconciliation with Jha, but later whittled it down to 48 hours, saying if it was not achieved the panel would issue a warrant of arrest against the singer.
