Pak may not challenge Tharoor

LAHORE: Pakistan may not field a candidate in the race for UN secretary-general after all.

Following the announcement of Shashi Tharoor’s name as India’s candidate for the post, there was speculation that Pakistan would follow suit.

But on Monday, Pakistan foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said that “Pakistan does not want Asia divided and wants consensus in the region on the issue”, suggesting that Islamabad may opt not to announce a candidate.
