NEW DELHI: Rahul Mahajan, under judicial custody in Tihar jail on charges of drug abuse, has been rather quiet and withdrawn, prison authorities said on Saturday, as they tried their best to make him comfortable.

He slept on the floor for the second consecutive day after a city court on Friday deferred its orders on his bail plea till June 13. Rahul will be in judicial custody for 14 days at Tihar.

"Looking at the recent health record of Rahul, we have kept him in Ward 4 of Jail 3, which is adjacent to the hospital ward," a jail official said.

"He is remaining quiet and withdrawn. And to make him feel comfortable we took the help of a few forward prisoners and psychiatrists. Some of the prisoners even shared their experiences with him," the official said.

He said they were treating Rahul like any other prisoner but as responsible officers they wanted him to feel comfortable.

Rahul had chapati, dal and sabzi as his dinner on Friday night and tea and two slices of bread as breakfast in the morning.

The authorities also said they had made arrangements for jail inmates to watch World Cup football and Rahul should enjoy the matches as long as he was there.

Rahul has not complained of any health problem since Friday afternoon. “Though he looks a little disturbed, there is no health complaint from him. A team of six doctors are regularly supervising his condition.”
