NEW DELHI: IT city Gurgaon was witness to a bloody gang war on Friday morning. In a daring shootout, a gangster was killed by members of a rival gang inside the city's court premises.

In retaliation, the police killed two members of the attacking gang. This is the second such incident this year and fourth since last year.

Hardat, a resident of Khandsa village, Haryana, facing trial for murder and dacoity, was shot dead near court no 4, where he was to appear on Friday morning. "Some eight members of a rival gang were waiting inside the court premises," said an eyewitness.

"As he approached the court, escorted by the Haryana police, the assailants surrounded him and fired indiscriminately. By the time the policemen could react, Hardat was dead and the assailants had escaped, saving one who hid himself in a nearby bathroom," he said. He was shot inside the bathroom by the cops.

A cesspool of blood could be seen inside the bathroom and in the gallery where Hardat was shot. Another member of the gang was shot at near Sohna. "The hunt is on for the other members of the gang," said Hanif Qureshi, SSP, Gurgaon.

The reason behind the gang war is dispute over a strip of land in the Khandsa village in Haryana. Hardat's gang had been at loggerheads with the Jai Prakash (JP) gang for a decade. Attacks and counter attacks have been going on since then.

While the JP gang has killed Hardat's two brothers, Hardat's gang has killed some members of the JP gang. With Gurgaon developing at a rapid pace and land prices skyrocketing, even a small piece of land is can lead to bloodshed.
