HYDERABAD: Hours before slain engineer K Suryanarayana's body landed in the city on Monday, a 28-year-old woman came forward claiming to be his second wife and sought a share in the compensation due to his family.

The woman, Gogula Swapna, turned up at the office of DCP (Crime) Sowmya Mishra and sought permission to have a look at Suryanarayana's body once it arrived in the city. She also demanded a share in the compensation due to his family for her one-year-old daughter Nidisha, who she claimed was fathered by him.

Mishra said Swapna has no documentary evidence to prove her claim. Although Swapna has photographs of her alleged marriage to Suryanarayana, these are not admissible as documentary evidence. Mishra has advised Swapna, who was accompanied by her lawyer, to take the matter to court.

"I want nothing for myself. I just want my daughter to get compensation like his other children," Swapna told reporters outside the DCP's office. "I am ready for a DNA test on my daughter to prove that she was fathered by him," she added, holding her daughter in her arms. The compensation offered to Suryanarayana's family from the Centre, Andhra Pradesh and his company Almoayed adds up to Rs40 lakh.
