Actor Shilpa talks about minding her career and husband Apoorva Agnihotri.

You’ve said that‘Kyunkii...’ is special to you. Why?
I have played the main leads in ‘Lavanya’ and ‘Kkusum’ but I am still recognized as Ganga of ‘Kyunkii’. Also we have a proper 9 to 6 shift which gives me enough time to spend at home. So I have stayed on for both emotional and practical reasons.

How do you balance your home and career?
I am not very ambitious. Money is important because I want to be financially secure before we start a family. I like to spend time with my husband. In the bargain I have lost out on good work. But I have no regrets.

How is Apoorva as a husband?
I am lucky to have a husband like him. He has his quirks - he can get irritable when he’s hungry and he’s moody too. But I couldn’t have asked for a better guy.

Did you accept the brief role in ‘Jassi…’ only because  Apoorva was in it?
You guessed it! It was my ‘arman’ (the name of Apoorva’s character) to be a part of the show with my husband. I liked the role of playing his ex-lover and grabbed it. But ironically I have very few scenes with  him.

What did the ‘Nach Baliye’ experience teach you?
The show reminds me of the long hours that we spent on rehearsals. My day would start at 7am and finish at 3 am. That started telling on my health. I lost a lot of weight. So I have been eating a lot these days. Apoorva, at times, has to tell me ‘Baby, stop hogging!’ Of course, I was upset when we were eliminated. But I guess we got eliminated at the right time. I would have suffered a nervous breakdown  had I carried on a little longer.
