NEW DELHI: Shocked and disappointed at being ignored for the home series against England, Zaheer Khan said he was never told the reasons of being dropped from the side but remained hopeful that a successful county stint with Worcestershire would help him make a comeback.

“It was not explained why I was dropped. I was shocked and disappointed when I was not in the Indian Test side for the England series,’’ Zaheer told a website.

“To play cricket at the highest level and to give your best in all the matches is the most  important thing and if there is any area of my game that needs improving, I am always open to listen to things. That’s why I am at Worcestershire, to gain fitness, grow as a cricketer, think about the game and grow as a bowler,’’ he  added.

Zaheer’s name was missing in the 15-member squad announced on Thursday for the five-match ODI series in West Indies next month.

Zaheer said he was playing county cricket on the advice of Javgal Srinath and Wasim Akram and believed that it would help his Test  form.
