Showing devotion to his profession, a city-based professor has penned a book writing about his 108 students, exploring the subtle psychological relationship between a teacher and students and bringing out collective aspect of education.
In his book ‘My Students My Love’, the author, Prof Suvasish Mukhopadhyay speaks about his students, who were closely associated with him during his 20-year teaching career.
Working as an associate professor at College of Engineering, Pune, Mukhopadhyay says that the students community is most neglected in our country and his book is an attempt to talk about his feelings towards them.
Drawing from real life incidents, the authors through this book attempts to change students apathy associated with the education system in our country and make teachers more approachable to students.
“The book is an output of my research on student’s psychology and behaviour during my 20-year career. Each student has to be understood as a student and also as a human being,” said Mukhopadhyay.
The book highlight’s students’ lives, their struggle, emotion, sentiments, love-affairs, sincerity, nervousness, examination phobia, depression, homesickness, failure and their ups and downs. Repeatedly throughout the book, the author suggests the students to choose the right vocation. “If the choice of vocation suits student’s aptitude, then the learning process becomes a hobby and textbooks become storybooks. Only under such conditions a student can reach the pinnacle of their academic career,” he added.
The author has tried to avoid technical jargons, even though he spoke about technical students. All the chapters are candid stories told by a teacher from his personal experiences with a touch of imagination.
