Members of the motor vehicle association union, Deshbhakt Abhiyan on January 27, held a protest against the illegal agents operating in the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO). The protest march started from Maharashtra Bhavan, Guruvar Peth, at 11 am.

Nana Kshirsagar, head of Desbhakt Abhiyaan said that they had written to the authorities about the illegal activities of these agents but no action was taken. Desbhakt Abhiyaan had also sent the authorities proof of around 5,000 fake licences and RTO permits that they recovered from people.

Iamin tried to contact the RTO officials but they refused to comment on the issue. However, Desbhakt Abhiyaan has started deploying its members to help the visitors fill forms and other formalities in the RTO to keep illegal agents at bay.

The state transport commissioner had banned entry of illegal agents into the RTO premises since January 19. However, the union claims that these touts continue to run their business from places like canteen or even from outside the premises that go unchecked.
