The Pune Lohegaon international airport is all set for a facelift. In a bid to make the airport more passenger friendly in the coming days, the newly joined airport director Manoj Gangal said his top priority will be to open new food outlets at the airport which currently has just one canteen and that too in a very poor shape.

Gangal said plans are afoot to enhance the security at the airport as more footfall would mean more threat.

Addressing the media, Gangal said, “We are planning to make Pune airport more passenger friendly. Therefore we are planning to add more food outlets in the airport premises. This will be done for the convenience of passengers so that people can come and spend some quality time here.”

Gangal further added, “The number of footfall of passengers will also increase therefore we are also planning to enhance the security and beef up the security system at the airport. We will be taking review of the infrastructure as well as manpower as compared to enhanced facilities as proposed, and accordingly come up with a plan.”

Looking at the demand for greater international connectivity, especially since people from smaller towns like Solapur and Kolhapur also frequent the airport, Gangal said he was going to hold a meeting with the air force officials regarding increasing the number of flights for new international destinations.

“Pune being an IT and business hub, most people from the city and also from the neighbouring cities are demanding flights for various international destinations. As of now we have flights for four international destinations,” added Gangal.

The airport passengers have welcomed the idea stating that new food outlets will be a boon, as the current food outlet is filthy state with flies all over the place.

Shivraj Gavimath (35), a businessmen, said, “It is more important to have clean place where we can sit and have food which is more hygienically cooked. The new joints should also have proper sitting arrangements for the visitors.”

Rajendar Jadhav (44), a working professional, said, “It is great that Pune airport will have new outlets. We will have more options to choose from now. However the quality and cleanliness should be maintained where we can come and sit with our family members.”
