A 78-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting her eight-year-old grandson.

The police said Naved Pedekar lives with his grandmother at Malwani while his parents live in Kolhapur.

“On Sunday, Pedekar was being a nuisance and bothering his grandmother, Razia Begum. She warned him many times but he did not listen,” said a police officer.

“She hit him with a utensil, injuring his eye badly. His eye turned black and swelled up,” said senior police inspector Abdul Rauf Shaikh.

“The child was crying for a long time so the neighbours noticed him and informed the police. We registered a case against Razia and arrested her,” said Shaikh.

A neighbour said on condition of anonymity: “Razia always hit the child but we never interfered. But this time the child was injured so we decided to inform the police.”
