There was high drama at Andheri station on Sunday midnight after a train full of commuters chugged into the yard. More than 500 commuters, including women, children and senior citizens, were forced to walk along the tracks in the dark to return to the
station.

“We were waiting at for a CST-bound train at Andheri station and the indicator displayed 11.31pm CST train. After some time, the indicator went blank. When a nine-car new-age train reached the platform at 11.55pm, there was neither an announcement nor did the indicator display the train details, but we boarded the train and it left the station,” said Yogesh Pawar, one of the commuters.

“But the train went to the Vile Parle yard and the motorman announced that it was a service train. Why couldn’t he announce it earlier when the train was on the platform?” added Pawar.
Other commuters pointed out that an announcement should have been made at the station or at least by the motorman in the train.
But, railway officials said commuters should have checked before getting into the train.
While Western Railway officials said the Harbour line is managed by Central Railway, CR spokesperson Ashok Kumar Singh said that none of the CR trains are taken to Vile Parle yard and that it must have been a WR train.
