Three persons, allegedly involved in a human trafficking racket, have been arrested from Gujarat by the Anti Human Trafficking and Smuggling Cell (AHTSC) of Mumbai Police. The arrested have been identified as Jignesh Patel, 25, Mitesh Patel, 26 (both residents of Ahmedabad) and Vishnudas Kasaldas Patel alias Jayesh, 33, a resident of Mehsana in Gujarat.

According to the police, Their names were disclosed by Deepak Shyamsundar Salvi, 41, an office superintendent at Air India (AI) and resident of Mira Road, Hemant Bajirao Morade, 40, an operator with AI and resident of Air India Colony, Ejaz Ansari, an airlines agent and kingpin of the racket Imtiaz Maradia, who were arrested earlier.

Inspector Nishikant Patil from AHTSC said, in 2007 and 2008, Salvi and Morade had illegally sent two women, Pramilaben and Reshmaben, posing as their ‘wives’ Sucheta and Mandakini. AI’s vigilance department learnt about the racket and tipped off the US consulate, which, in turn lodged a complaint on February 10 this year.

The police arrested Salvi, Morade and Ansari in February and Imtiaz in April. “Imtiaz got in touch with Jignesh and Mitesh for getting customers to be sent to US illegally. The two then got in touch with Jayesh, who sent Pramilaben to the US,” said police inspector Suresh Kane.

A police team visited Mehsana on June 9. “We learnt that Pramilaben used to earn nearly Rs1 lakh per month in the US and send the money to Jayesh which helped him to open an ice-cream parlour in Mehsana. We went to his parlour and arrested him on June 12. The arrest of Jignesh and Mitesh followed,” added the officer. The three were produced before a local court, which remanded them in police custody till June 21.
