Tantrik arrested for duping a senior citizen in Mumbai

Police have arrested a tantrik for allegedly cheating a senior citizen of over Rs13 lakh.

The police said that Walli-ur-Shafi-ur-Rehman Shaikh alias Baba Karim was arrested yesterday from his residence at Dharavi upon a complaint filed by one Sham Kumar Shrivastav,77, resident of Malabar Hill in South Mumbai.

According to Shrivastav, he had approached Shaikh around October last year seeking treatment for his illness after his secretary Ashish Ranade, 34, saw the tantrik's advertisement in a newspaper.

Allegedly, Shaikh did not give any medicines, but took money from Shrivastav to cast `spells', said police inspector Ratan Burke.

Police are now finding out whether Shaikh cheated others in the similar way.

Ranade too has been arrested as he is suspected to be Shaikh's middleman.
