Students planning to pursue postgraduate diploma management courses in Somaiya, SIES, Chetana, IES or Bhartiya Vidyapeeth colleges will have to undergo a separate common admission process (CAP).

At least 52 private management institutions in the state will be conducting centralised CAP rounds after a high court directive allowed them to conduct their own group discussions and personal interviews.

Earlier, the process was decentralised and individual colleges conducted their own admission process.

Even as scores of five national-level entrance tests will be considered for admissions in these private institutions, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) would be giving these colleges an equalisation method to ensure admissions would be on merit basis.

The Consortium of Management Institutes, which comprises 52 colleges in the state, will be conducting common group discussions (GP) and personal interviews (PI) for students as done by the DTE. Students who are interested in any of these 52 colleges will have to attend a single GD/PI conducted centrally by the consortium.

President of the consortium Apoorva Palkar said, “This is the first time that we are conducting a single window CAP for AICTE approved PGDM courses. Earlier, colleges conducted their own process. To ensure that the admissions are done on the basis of merit, the court has asked the DTE to give us an equalisation method within two weeks.”

According to the order, scores of CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA and JMET — the five national level tests, will be considered for calling students for the GD/PI rounds. The arrangement, however, is only for this year. The consortium will also have to inform the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) on the process they follow to avoid allegations of exploitation, stated the court.
