The state government would establish three more sub-regional transport offices, to be headed by officers of the rank of deputy regional transport officers, at Baner, Katraj and Mohammedwadi areas of the city.

“Considering the space crunch for expansion of the Pune regional transport office (RTO), the new offices would ease the workload of the RTO. The state government would earmark funds for these offices to come up during this financial year,” said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar here on Sunday.

He was speaking as the chief guest, after handing over 18 new school vans complying with the new school transport norms of the state government.

Ajit Pawar distributed keys to 18 Maruti Suzuki Omni vans to individual school bus drivers. These new vans have safety grills, speed governor and first aid kits. Pune RTO Arun Yeola said, “Despite the policy being framed, many schools in Pune have failed to adopt the policy in the interest of schoolchildren and parents.” There are 16 lakh schoolchildren and 7,000 schools in Pune district.
