The 18 medical students from KEM hospital’s Seth GS Medical College who were arrested for ragging 10 juniors at the Naigaum boys’ hostel face serious consequences.

Though the students were released on a bond of Rs5,000 each on Monday from the Bhoiwada court, a 20-member anti-ragging committee announced that they won’t get any free-ships, scholarships and fellowships and won’t be allowed to represent the college at any state- or national-level event.

The students, in the second and third year of the occupational therapy and physiotherapy courses, as well as two interns, were also expelled from their hostel and asked to vacate the premises with immediate effect.

“Also, the interns would have a remark on their certificate which would clearly state their involvement in such an act,” said Sanjay Oak, dean of the hospital, adding that the students would, however, be allowed to continue with their studies.
