Accused of land grabbing and cheating to obtain a school property, founder president of Sinhgad Technical Education Society, MN Navale, has decided to return the controversial school land to the charity trust that made the allegations.

A first information report (FIR) has been lodged by trustees of Pavan Gandhi Charity Trust (PGCT) - Chainsukh Gandhi and Ravi Barate - against Navale for violating a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and grabbing 11.5 acres land of the trust. Pawan Gandhi Sinhgad Springdale School, Pirangut now stands on the controversial property that the trust alleges has been illegally acquired from them by Navale. In a letter to parents of students of the school sent two days ago (a copy is available with DNA), Navale said he is going to return the school property to the PGCT due to the ongoing controversy and that the students would be shifted to the Warje campus of Sinhgad Springdale School.

While despite repeated attempts, Navale couldn’t be contacted for comment, Barate from PGCT said he had a copy of the letter, but said they are in no mood to accept the truce.

“Navale has cheated us and we will not accept our land in this manner. We want to teach him a lesson and make this into an example that even powerful people can be punished. We will take him to court and not settle for anything less,” he said.

Meanwhile parents of students studying at the Pirangut campus of the school are upset over the management’s abrupt decision.”The letter states that students studying in the school will be shifted to the Warje campus post-Diwali vacations. The transportation arrangements would be communicated to us. We have been given no choice, either shift to Warje or withdraw our children from the school,” said a parent.

Another parent said the distance to the new campus was at least 12 km and it was unfair to take the decision without consulting parents.

“They took a meeting of parents to communicate their decision. They even offered to bear transport costs and said they are building their own campus in Pirangut but it would take 18 months for completion of the construction. Till then, our children are being shifted to Warje. We have been told that we can go to another school if we are not happy but who will accept our children mid-term? In this legal case, we are suffering,” said another parent.
