Pune's Shivaji University to get its own data centre

Union government’s department of science and technology sanctioned Rs1 crore under the scheme, promotion of university research and scientific excellence (Purse).

Shivaji University (SU) is going to set up a central data centre for strengthening the varsity’s digital infrastructure. It will cost around Rs3 crore, of which Rs1 crore will be spent on computer-related material.”

SU vice chancellor, NJ Pawar, told DNA the Union government’s department of science and technology has sanctioned Rs1 crore under the scheme, promotion of university research and scientific excellence (Purse).

“The central data centre has already been set up at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, University of Pune and College of Engineering, Pune. We have studied the centres before starting work in SU,” said librarian RK Kamat, who is handling the project.

The central data centre will be sharing software, journals and literature and will ensure tech-savvy administration. “SU’s website, www.unishivaji.ac.in, has been upgraded. Due to the advanced data centre, online submission of various examinations for the SU will be enhanced,” Kamat added.

He said after setting up the data centre, departments can share the software.
