Pune's Fergusson College holds English workshop for NET/SET prep

The purpose of the workshop was to prepare students for the English subject in NET/SET and provide them with valuable guidance and techniques of answering questions.

The department of English at Fergusson College had organised a two-day state-level workshop on ‘Get ready to crack NET/SET examinations’ recently. The chief guest for the event was director of the Board of College and University Development, University of Pune, WN Gade.

The purpose of the workshop was to prepare students for the English subject in NET/SET and provide them with valuable guidance and techniques of answering questions.

Teachers and experts like Shridhar Gokhale, KS Iyer, Hameed Khan, Shirish Chindhade, VM Madge, Jayprakash Shinde and MA Shaikh spoke at the event. The sessions included topics like essay writing, Indian writing in English, a discussion on Shakespeare’s tragedies, the romantic period in English literature, poetry analysis and so on. Every speaker advised students to concentrate on strengthening their reading and writing skills of
English. 

The event was sponsored by the University of Pune and organised by principal of Fergusson College, RG Pardeshi; head of the English department, Kajal Chakravarti and professors Arjun Jadhav and Madhuri Gokhale, with the assistance of student volunteers. All students who attended the workshop were given certificates of participation.

The National Educational Testing Bureau of the University Grants Commission conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for assistant professorship and award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in order to ensure a minimum standard for entrants in the teaching profession and research.
