Babasaheb Kunte (53), officer on special duty at the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), was allegedly manhandled by a group of hawkers after he initiated an anti-encroachment drive against an illegal eatery on Poona College Road in Camp on Wednesday.
The incident came to light when Kunte, a resident of Tatya Tope Housing Society in Wanavdi, lodged a complainant with the Cantonment police against Valli and Suriya Valli Shaikh, both residents of Bhavani Peth.
Senior inspector Sushma Chavan, in charge of Cantonment police station, told DNA, “The victim was beaten brutally and suffered injuries on his chest. We are investigating the complaint.”
When contacted Kunte said, “The goons attacked me while I was on an anti-encroachment drive.”
