Plans to tackle water crisis in Nagpur district

The district administration has geared up to tackle the drinking water crisis ahead of summer and will be spending Rs8.18 crores on it, official sources said today.

A meeting chaired by district collector Praveen Darade today reviewed the situation in 916 villages falling in the district.

Phasewise necessary steps are being taken. The average rainfall of Nagpur district is 1037.46 MM but actual rainfall between June to October 2009 was recorded at 881.01 MM which was 85.6%, they said.

Around 64.02% water was available at Pench irrigation project, 89.40% in Lower Vena project, 83.26% in medium and 64.68% in mini project, they said.

To tackle water problems water tankers will be made available during summer to meet the requirements, the meeting was informed.

Zilla Parishad president Suresh Bhoyar along with all sub divisional officers (SDOs), tahsildars, ground water works and Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran officials were also present at the meeting.
