Fifty-two-year-old Satpal Singh Grewal was killed while repairing a grinding machine onboard Multi Support Vessel (MSV) HAL Anant on Friday morning.

ONGC spokesperson Harish Awal told DNA that the deceased was a diver on contract with the company. He was injured while working on ONGC chartered vessel HAL Anant at 9.15am on Friday.

“As advised by the doctor onboard, he was immediately shifted to base and was rushed to Nanavati Hospital. He was, however, declared dead on arrival,” said Awal.

HAL spokesperson Navin Mohta, said that Grewal was working on the grinding machine when the heavy wheel suddenly broke into pieces. Several pieces hit Grewal in his left eye and the scalp, injuring him seriously.

“Grewal was from Amritsar in Punjab. Hence we informed his close family members after the accident,” Mohta said.

He further said that they had also made arrangements for the family members to reach Mumbai by 3 pm via an Air India flight from Chandigarh.

“The body was kept at the Cooper Hospital morgue after post mortem. It will be handed over to the Grewal’s kin on their arrival,” Mohta informed.
