Sajag Nagrik Manch (SNM), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has written to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), demanding that ‘stop’ signboards be set up at all bus stops.
“In the absence of such signage, some drivers are erratic, often leaving hapless commuters with no option but to run to board the vehicle. Women and senior citizens suffer the most. Moreover, this increases chances of accidents,” convener of the SNM, Jugal Rathi, wrote to the chairman and managing director of PMPML, RN Joshi.
Rathi cited the example of the route from Aundh to Dange Chowk, where he had not seen any signage at bus stops. “We have pointed out the necessity of stop signboards to the chairman and other senior officials time and again, yet no action has been taken. It is desired that the transport body looks into the matter soon,” he said.
Acknowledging the problem, DA Pardeshi, public relations officer of PMPML, said, “We are fitting bus stops with stop signboards. Hopefully, the project will be over by the end of the year,” he said.
