Navi Mumbai engineer becomes 13th victim of German Bakery bomb blast

Atul Ganpat Anap, a 30-year-old software engineer from Navi Mumbai (Nerul) became the 13th victim of the German Bakery bomb blast when he succumbed to his injuries at 4pm in Pune on Saturday.

Sources told DNA that Atul, who was originally from the Satrav village in the Rahuri taluka of the Ahmednagar district had made Navi Mumbai his home. Atul had come to Pune for a job interview along with his wife. Atul was parking his car near the  bakery when the bomb went off.

He was employed with the Reliance communication company in  Mumbai and is survived by his father, mother and wife Rita who too has suffered injuries in the blast.

Atul was admitted to the King Edward Memorial hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) and was on ventilator support initially. Both Atul and Rita were later admitted to the KEM hospital and were looked after by his parents according to one of his friends. A doctor at KEM told DNA that Atul had sustained 35 per cent burns on his face, abdomen, legs and hands. “He had bone fractures, splinter and limb injuries. He was brought to KEM only on Tuesday,” he said.

 According to doctors at KEM hospital, Rita has a fair chance of recovery as she had not sustained serious burns like Atul did.
