Gold jewellery worth around Rs1.4 lakh was snatched from three women at three different locations in the city by unidentified men who sped off on motorbikes after committing the crime.
With the onset of the festive season, criminals involved in chain snatching and thefts have become more active. Between 6.30am and 7am on Sunday, three cases of ornament snatching took place in the city.
Gold jewellery worth around Rs1.4 lakh was snatched from three women at three different locations in the city by unidentified men who sped off on motorbikes after committing the crime.
The first case happened around 6.30 am on the LBS Road at Vikroli when the victim, Sameeksha Parkar, 32, was going towards the bus stop with her son.
Two unidentified bikers came very close to her and snatched away her gold Mangalsutra and pendant worth Rs62,000 and fled. Initially, Parkar did not realise what had happened as the sudden attack had left her shocked. It was only after two to three minutes that she realised that her gold mangalsutra had been snatched away
Another incident took place just half an hour later on the LBS Road at Bhandup. The victim, Jaya Momaiya, 65, who was going to a banquet hall, said two men on a bike snatched away her gold chain worth Rs20,000 and sped away.
The third incident happened near the Bajaj Choice Center on the MS Ali Road where 32-year-old Sangeeta Dhamankar became a victim of chain snatching. An unidentified person riding a scooter snatched her mangalsutra and chain worth Rs60,000 and zoomed away.
Police say the number of chain-snatching incidents has increased because the price of jewellery is expected to go up during the festive season.
