Thirty-six-year-old Malad resident, injured in the July 13 serial blasts, died on Friday evening at 8.30pm, taking the toll to 21.

Shripal Mojpura, 36, was admitted to Hurkisondas Hospital with severe brain injuries and was one of the six critical patients. He was injured in the Opera House blast.

Three blasts in Dadar’s Kabutarkhana, Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar rocked Mumbai on July 13. The high-intensity blast at the city’s diamond hub had claimed the maximum number of victims — 11.

Dr Harshad Parekh, neurosurgeon at the hospital who operated on Mojpura, said: “He had serious injuries in his brain. Due to the impact of the blast, his skull bones were shattered and metal pieces were lodge deep in his brain.”

Mojpura is survived by his wife and two children.

He was one of the few blast victims who was immediately operated on after he was admitted to the hospital.
“He underwent two surgeries to remove all the metal pieces and bone pieces embedded in his brain,” added Dr Parekh.
Mojpura was on life support system since the day he was brought in.

His family had requested the hospital to consult the 11/7 train blast victim Parag Sawant’s doctor who recently gained consciousness after five years at PD Hinduja Hospital. Obliging the family, Dr BK Mishra of Hinduja Hospital had gone to Hurkisondas Hospital and examined him.

“Shripal along with my elder brother Rajesh were in diamond trading business,” said Paresh Shah, his maternal cousin. “They had come down to have tea and snacks when the bomb went off. While Rajesh moved ahead for some work, Shripal stayed at the bhel corner. Rajesh escaped the blast. The bhelwala and a hot chips seller died on the spot.”

Meanwhile, another 13/7 victim admitted to KEM hospital is critical.
Mankeshwar Vishwakarma, 28, sustained skull injuries and was again put on ventilator on Friday morning.

According to doctors, he is unconsciousness since the day of the blast.
