In an attempt to provide comfortable journey to its passengers on longer routes, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) started Shivneri Volvo bus service on Pune-Nagpur route from Shivajinagar ST depot on Thursday.

The 41 seater bus was inaugurated after a puja was performed by the first passenger, Raman. This bus left for Nagpur at 7 pm carrying 26 passengers on its first trip.

Senior depot manager of Shivajinagar ST depot Vilas Patil said, “We have fixed the fare at Rs1,210 and we will provide a water bottle and a newspaper to each passenger. Earlier, there were semi luxury buses operating on the route. Now, for the first time, we have started Volvo bus service.’’

“Since private operators are charging exorbitant fares on this route, we are expecting a good response. The private operators increase the fare during the vacations, but we will maintain the same fare even during the vacations,’’ he added.

The bus will depart for Nagpur from Shivajinagar ST depot every day at 7 pm and will reach Nagpur, the next day at 8 am. From Nagpur, it will leave at 7 pm every day and will reach Shivajinagar at 8 am on the next day.
