What could be the best gift to anyone in this season of inflation? Ask chief minister Prithviraj Chavan’s wife Satvasheela. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has gifted to her the most precious commodity at present — onions.

“We feel that the chief minister does not listen to the common man’s worries and grievances anymore. The onion prices are skyrocketing and the common man is suffering due to this. So, we thought we should gift the costliest item of the season to his wife.
She must have been suffering too due to inflation. May this gift convey the necessary message,” said Chetan Pednekar, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) vice-president.
The MNS women’s wing has taken up this initiative throughout the city. “This is a protest to draw the chief minister’s attention to the hardship housewives are facing. Every day, we will be selling onions at Re1 higher than the previous day’s price. The 18% inflation rate is unprecedented and has never happened before. At least let us know what the government is doing. There seems to be no action from the government’s side to curb the growing prices,” said Shalini Thackeray, vice-president, Maharashtra Navnirman Mahila Sena (MNMS).
It was MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s wife Sharmila Thackeray who had the special gift to offer to Mrs Chavan. It was a parcel of 9kg onions. The party said that they shelled out Rs81 plus the courier charges for the gift.
