The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is at it again. This is the second time within a fortnight that the MNS workers have disrupted the shooting of a film.

Fifteen of them were arrested by the Malwani police on Tuesday for creating trouble during a shoot at Aksa Beach in Malad (West). The workers said they were checking whether the 27 foreigners working in the film had the requisite work permits.

Few of them were also involved in disrupting the shoot of producer Ritesh Sidhwani’s film at Mehboob studio on March 15.

According to police, the MNS workers barged into the sets of the Hindi film Angel on Tuesday. They demanded that the choreographer, Ganesh Acharya, show them the work permits of the foreign dancers. When refused, they started shouting slogans and forced him to stop the shooting.

The police were informed and the MNS workers, along with the dancers, were taken to Malwani police station.

Shalini Thackeray, secretary of the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Kamgar Sena, claimed that the workers had permission from the police to check whether the foreigners had the work permits. “Our workers went there with the police. We don’t know why they were arrested,” she said.

The police refuted her claim. “They did not have any such permission,” said senior inspector VR Andhale from Malwani station. “We have found that he dancers have valid work permits.”
Investigating officer Sameer Salunkhe said, “The foreigners have an employment visa and since the MNS workers disrupted the shooting, we arrested them for unlawful assembly.”

A visibly upset Acharya said: “We ensured that all the foreigners working in the film have employment visa. Because of this, we have lost a day of shooting.”
