The Bombay high court on Wednesday ruled that MHADA has powers to initiate action against a tenant who does not vacate his premises by breaking open the lock.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Siddiqui Alam seeking a stay on the eviction notice issued to him by Mhada. He is a tenant in a shop in Devji Dharsi building at Nagpada. MHADA advocate GW Mattos argued that Alam had undertaken to vacate the premises after seeing the particulars of permanent accommodation of the proposed plan.
