Medical student rams car into taxi, injures 4

A 24-year-old drunk medical student rammed his speeding Honda City into the taxi, after scaling the divider and crossing over to the other side of the road.

A taxi driver and the three passengers travelling in the taxi were seriously injured when a 24-year-old drunk medical student rammed his speeding Honda City into the taxi, after scaling the divider and crossing over to the other side of the road. The incident occurred around 5am on September 19 at Gamdevi.

The accused, Mihir Upadhyay, who also sustained minor injuries, was remanded in judicial custody till September 21, before being released on bail. Initial blood reports revealed the presence of alcohol in his blood.

Tardeo resident Upadhyay is pursuing his MBBS internship at DY Patil Medical College at Navi Mumbai. He was on his way home after a party at the time of the accident. People sleeping on the footpath managed to pull out the injured taxi driver Subhash Jaiswal and the passengers.

Upadhyay fled after the accident, but an alert resident gave the police control room the car’s registration number and the driver’s description. The mobile van of the Gamdevi police soon intercepted the car.
