The Bhoiwada police caught a 21-year-old youth red-handed on Tuesday while he was attempting to withdraw cash from two ATM centres at Parel with a stolen credit card.

“Shoaib Dudhwala, 21, a resident of Mahim, was booked for forgery and cheating. The police recovered three stolen ATM cards, a forged driving licence, Rs9,000 in cash and a mobile on his person,” said Vikram Patil, senior police inspector of Bhoiwada police station. He added that Dudhwala was remanded in police custody till August 12.

The incident took place at around 3am at Peninsula building in Parel. Two police personnel — Ramchandra Choudhari and Sharmaji Walvi were patrolling near the building where they noticed that a youth inside an ATM centre was trying to withdraw money with a credit card.

The duo suspected foul play and stayed there to keep a tab on his movements. They further noticed that the youth rushed to another ATM nearby and again tried to withdraw money. But he did not succeed and the cops realised that he was not an ATM cardholder. They nabbed him as soon as he emerged.

Dudhwala gave evasive answers during the preliminary investigations and was brought to the Bhoiwada police station. The police recovered three ATM cards, a forged driving licence, Rs9,000 in cash and a mobile from him.
