The cyber crime investigation cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a 42-year-old man from Gurgaon employed with a visa processing company for allegedly defaming a rival firm.
Anit Singh Virk allegedly created a fake email ID and sent a defamatory email about VFS Global Services at Lower Parel to the consul general office of Japan in Thailand.
In September, senior officials of VFS Global Services found out that the consul general office of Japan had received an email from vfsglobalinfo@gmail.com .
The firm officials lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police. Investigations revealed that the fake email ID was created from an IP address that belonged to Anjali Virk from Gurgaon.
“Anit had worked with Anjali’s company at their China office. He had resigned in 2010. “It had been learned that Anit had intentionally sent the email to consul general of Japan with malafide intentions to affect the victim’s company business,” said a cyber crime officer, requesting anonymity.
“We have seized the laptop that was used to create the fake email ID.”
Virk was produced before a local court and granted bail.
