The special cell of Delhi police said the suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, arrested in the capital on Tuesday, was headed for Aurangabad in Maharashtra with explosives to execute a terror plan. But Maharashtra’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the Intelligence Bureau beg to differ.

Mohammed Aslam was caught by the special cell about an hour before he was to board a Nanded-bound Sachkand Express at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. He was caught allegedly with four detonators, two timers and two kilograms of explosive chemicals.
Sources in the central intelligence and police are now disputing the earlier claims of the Delhi police. They said the suspected terrorist may not have been on any specific mission and the story about the intended attack during Ganeshotsav in Maharashtra may have been baseless.

According to sources in Delhi police, some officials from the Maharashtra ATS are also not happy with the way the operation has been handled. “Some ATS officers are not happy with the special cell and the way they disclosed baseless accounts on news channels. They also claim that the information provided by the special cell on Aslam going to wreak havoc during Ganeshotsav is unsubstantiated,” a Delhi police officer said.
The special cell officers gave detailed bytes to news channels, barely few hours after the suspected LeT operative was caught.

“The home ministry has asked for all the bytes given by the special cell officers on news channels,” said a police officer. He added, “The police have been given strict orders not to talk about Aslam till he is interrogated.”

Aslam, who was remanded in police custody till September 9, was allegedly carrying explosives in sweet boxes to be delivered to his accomplices. Sources said Aslam was an old SIMI cadre.
