The owners of shop and establishments in the city may be complaining, but the BMC is determined to implement its order.

So, it seems that an additional expense is on the cards for some five lakh shops and establishments, located within the municipal limits of Mumbai. Each one of them will have to put up a new signboard, in which the Marathi (Devnagari) script will have to be bigger and bolder than any other language used.

Unless the court intervenes to stop the BMC, it will be rich pickings for signboard painters in the city. But they will have to burn the midnight oil, as painting 5 lakh signboards in 60 days would be no mean a task.

In the event of any shop or establishment not complying with the BMC order, its owner would be punished under section 20 (A) of the shop and establishments act. It involves legal action and a maximum fine of Rs5,000.
