Hema Malini promises to star in politics

She has excelled as an actress, and as a dancer. And now, she will show how good a politician she can be.

Hema Malini said on Sunday that she had it in her to play the role of the BJP national vice-president to perfection.

Addressing critics who wailed at her being given the key party post, Hema said, “I am an actor, a dancer, and yet I can deal with politicians. We, the women, have the power to deal with everything in a proper manner.”

Clad in a green saree, she addressed delegates at the concluding session of the BJP state conclave in Jalgaon. “I have been campaigning for the party during elections for the past few years. This is the first time I am addressing you as the party vice-president. I am aware of my responsibilities, and I am confident of doing well,” she said.

But once a ‘Dream Girl’, always a dream girl. Many BJP delegates at the conclave could not take their eyes off her. One was seen fighting with press photographers because they came in the way of him watching her from close range.

A local worker Vijay Wadkar ran to the stage when it was his turn to be felicitated by Hema. The audience burst out laughing. Later,
Girish Mahajan, an MLA, said Wadkar ran because he was afraid that if he kept Hema waiting she might decide not to felicitate him herself, and pass it on to someone else.

Sureshchandra Suryawanshi, a party official from Dhule, presented Hema with a poem he had penned for her. She was pleasantly surprised to see that the poem was in Hindi. She read it, smiled, folded the sheet, and kept it in her purse.
DNA later found out Suryawanshi’s lyrics for Hema. His poem went: Aap ke ane se khil gaye hai dil hamare/Na poochhiye ki dil sab ke kyun uchhal rahe hai/Aap ke barey mein kya kahoon…/Samudra ki shai aur aakash ka kagaz bhi adhura hai/Meri maa aap jaisi hoti to na jane hum bhi kitney khoobsurat hotey.
