State labour department wants Urvashi Dhanorkar, the housewife arrested for her alleged atrocities on the child maid at her house, to face the stricter action. The department has asked police authorities to apply all possible sections of acts dealing with child atrocities to ensure the child got justice.

Labour minister Nawab Malik said Dhanorkar would be arrested again under various sections of the Bonded Labour Act, Child Trafficking Act and Juvenile Justice Act in the next few hours.

The labour commission also has registered a complaint against Dhanorkar under section 3 of the Child Labour Act on Monday. “The accused also has been asked to deposit a sum of Rs20,000 towards the victim’s rehabilitation. After the Children Welfare Committee completes the investigation in the case at the Mankhurd remand home, where the victim has been sent, she will be handed over to her parents,” the minister said.

Incidentally, police stations in the city have been asked to submit detailed reports on cases of child abuse in their jurisdictions and the action taken in them.

Labour department also has undertaken measures to publicise the fact that employing child labour is a crime. “The hoardings will be displayed on ST, BEST buses and advertised on Radio and TV. Shops and establishments will be asked to display undertaking that they have not employed any children. Every licence/certificate issued by the labour department will have slogans saying the employing child labour is a crime,” stated a release issued by the labour department.

“We are enquiring into the case and Dhanorkar will be slapped with additional charges once our enquiry is over,” said senior police inspector Kailash Ghamande of Amboli police station.
