German Bakery was warned: Pune police

The Pune police had asked the German Bakery management to fix security equipment like closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) and framed metal detectors as early as October 9 last year, but the bakery management had not followed the police guidelines.

This was disclosed to media persons on Saturday evening by the Pune police commissioner Satyapal Singh. Singh said that the German Bakery manager, Pravin Pant had been specifically asked to do the same. Pant is a complainant in the German Bakery bomb blast case.

Singh said that the security awareness drives have been stepped up in the city schools, colleges, malls and restaurants in the light of the bomb blast at the German Bakery.

When asked if the police would take action against the German Bakery for not following the guidelines, Singh said that this was not the time to conduct any action against the bakery.

Singh informed media persons that the police had stepped up action against flat owners, who failed to provide information about their tenants. The police chief said that thirty cases had been filed against the property owners across Pune city. Singh, however said that there were no, new security threats in the city.

The police chief also said that additional security cover had been provided to all Jewish centres in the light of terror threats.
