Mumbai: A 17-year-old boy, Kishore Bhagat (name changed to protect identity), who sent an email to Air India threatening to blow up a flight, was recently traced and arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch from his hometown Karnal, in Haryana's Mahendragarh district.
During sustained interrogation, the police gathered that he had created a new email ID just for the purpose of sending the threat mail.

Bhagat planned the plot precisely, meticulously deleting the mail he sent from the new id. He even deleted the sites he had used to access the Air India email address in attempt to wipe out the email trail. Bhagat managed to con the Delhi police, whose investigations hit a roadblock as they were unable to find any evidence from the email id and the computer used to send it.

However, Mumbai police used a special software to retrieve the data exchanged between the email ID and the PC. The 'Disinvestigator' software helped the police trace the evidence and build a strong case against the boy.

A senior officer from the Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell said, ''Kishore had deleted all the sent mails and did not leave any kind record on his computer which could prove that he had sent the email."

Joint commissioner of police, crime, Rakesh Maria said "The accused minor is a junior college student and the son of a doctor; he was earlier in the science stream as he wanted to be a doctor like his father, but could not cope with studies in the science stream. He shifted to commerce but was frustrated since then; he told us he took this step due to frustration."
