Four held in ration card fraud

Four persons including a computer engineer have been arrested for allegedly preparing and selling fake ration cards and driving licences at nominal prices in the city, police said today.

The accused identified as Randeria (31), Hafis Shaikh (40), Kishore Soni alias Kaka (42) Khalid Khan (27) were held near Thakur cinema in suburban Kandivli when they arrived there in a car to deliver fake documents, they said.
 
About 11 fake ration cards and nine driving licences were confiscated from their possession, police said. Also, equipments like monitor, scanner, printer, fax machine, cartridges, stamp paper and tracing paper total valued at Rs11.17 lakh from their office in Mira Road, they said.
 
"The mastermind of the racket, Randeria, who has a diploma in computers, used to prepare fake cards and licences, while three of his associates supplied necessary material for the preparation and searched for potential clients," said senior police inspector A Kinjale of Samata Nagar police station.
 
All the accused have been remanded to police custoday till August 11, police said. The arrests come in the wake of an order issued by the state government to probe the incident of MNS activists procuring a bogus ration card in the name of Swatanter Kumar, chief justice of Bombay High Court.
