A Norwegian national assaulted an assistant police inspector with a knife at the Thane railway police station on Monday night.

The API, Shamshuddin Mulla, attached to the Thane railway police station, sustained cut injuries on his left thumb.

The 48-year-old suspect, Aas Marten, has been arrested and booked under various sections of the IPC.

“We have informed the consulate of Norway about the incident,” said senior inspector Rajendra Kathawate of the Thane railway police station. The police have recovered a 7.5-inch-long blood-stained knife from the suspect.

Kathawate said Marten had landed in Mumbai on December 1 on a tourist visa.
Mulla said, “Some commuters brought Marten, who had lost his way on the station premises, to the police around 8.30 pm on Monday.

After conducting an inquiry, we tried to contact the consulate of Norway. But nobody picked up phone there. Then we served him tea and biscuits and asked him to sit in the police station till next morning. Marten suddenly got up and attacked the officer.”
