Felicitations, rallies and lectures mark the Women's Day in Pune

Women from various walks of life, who have contributed to the development of society, were felicitated during most programmes across the city.

The city celebrated International Women’s Day with enthusiasm on Tuesday. Women from various walks of life, who have contributed to the development of society, were felicitated during most programmes across the city.

The Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad felicitated successful women from different fields. A dance show by dancer Manisha Sathe was staged at Tilak Smarak Mandir late in the evening.

The state women and child welfare department honoured women, who have worked for society. The function was held at Alpa Bachat Bhavan.

The AnandvanBahudeshiya Sanstha’s de-addiction centre organised a lecture on ‘Welcome the birth of a girl child’.  The discussion was held at the SM Joshi Hall.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd’s ERA Computer Centre organised a ‘rangoli’ competition for women at their centre in Model Colony.

The International Women’s Day cancer awareness programme and free cancer screening camp for women was held at the Ruby hall clinic auditorium by the hospital.

The Pune Aayam Creation and Ashay Film Club, in association with Phadnis Group, began a three-day film festival on ‘Women in Cinema’ at the National Film Archive of India.
The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) organised ‘Corporate Diva’, a training programme exclusively for women.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) held a rally on the occasion, in which women dressed in traditional attire walked from Bhide Wada to Phule Wada. Around 100 teachers and 300 children from PMC schools participated in the rally.
In Pimpri-Chinchwad, several self-help groups (SHGs) organised programmes such as a traditional-wear rally.
Pune commissioner of police Meeran Borwankar addressed women at the Professor Ramkrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad in a programme organised by the police to discuss, ‘Law and Women’.
