The final decision regarding the list of eligible slum dwellers in Vaidyuwadi would be declared by the slum rehabilitation authority (SRA) in two months, additional chief executive officer (SRA), Dr Sanjay Kolte, told DNA on Monday.

Located near Dyaneshwar Paduka Mandir, this slum saw violent protests by dwellers early November 2011, when a SRA team tried to carry out forceful eviction and demolition.

Declared legal by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), this slum was eligible for rehabilitation under the SRA scheme.

Of the 102 slum dwellers, 84 were eligible for rehabilitation, as per the SRA list. However, many slum dwellers had pointed to gross irregularities on the list.

The SRA panel, formed in April 2011 to investigate the allegations, submitted its report revealing names of 19 slum dwellers on the list that were ineligible for rehabilitation.

However, SRA failed to take action on the report and carried out the demolition drive. Following repeated complaints from slum dwellers, Kolte organised hearings and issued notices to those mentioned in the panel report for hearing their say.

“Around seven hearings were held by me, of which two were found eligible for rehabilitation. The appeals for the rest were held by the high-power committee, and the final list would be released within the next two months,” he said.
