DNA sample of Nehru Nagar cop’s kin sent to Kalina lab

Meanwhile, the Nehru Nagar police are checking the record of history sheeters who have been booked for similar cases and also cases of molesting minors.

DNA samples of 70 people, including that of a police officer’s kin, have been sent for testing at the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (KFSL) in the rape and murder case of three Kurla girls.

Assistant commissioner of police Namdeo Wayal said, “Yes, it is true that we have sent the sample of a close relative of a police officer from Nehru Nagar. But I cannot reveal the name. DNA samples of several people have been sent for testing to match with the sample of the suspected accused. But I do not have any idea about the number.”

KFSL director MV Garad said, “We have sent the reports of the samples to Kurla police. Till date, they have sent around 70 samples. Also, chemical analysis and other tests are being conducted on the evidence that is sent to us.”

In the second case that happened in March, the body of a nine-year-old girl was found dumped on the terrace of the police quarters located opposite Nehru Nagar police station. The victim was raped and murdered by the accused who managed to dump the body and flee without being noticed by anyone. It was then suspected that the unidentified accused had an idea that very few people used the terrace which does not have boundary walls.

Meanwhile, the Nehru Nagar police are checking the record of history sheeters who have been booked for similar cases and also cases of molesting minors. These people have also been called for questioning.

In the past few months, three minor girls from Vatasala Tai Nagar and Alidada Compound in the Nehru Nagar area were kidnapped, raped and murdered. While the first two incidents were reported on February 9 and March 7, the third came to light when the body of the girl was found inside a locked hutment on June 19 after she had gone missing on June 6 from Alidada Compound.

Home minister RR Patil said on Monday that the gruesome cases will be solved within a few days.
