District collector Vikas Deshmukh has ordered a survey of Ramnadi to draw up flood lines to help keep them free of
constructions.

He announced this during an on-the-spot inspection of the river in Bavdhan on Tuesday.  Any structure built within the flood lines are illegal and can be demolished.  On Monday, members of Bavdhan Area Sabha and Jal Biradari met the collector to draw his attention to the problem of illegal dumping along the Ramnadi. Deshmukh, along with senior revenue officers, visited the river on Tuesday.

“Till now, the flood lines of the river were not drawn. So, I have asked the irrigation department to start a survey of it immediately,” he said. “Ramnadi is a very serious issue and I have ordered the survey to be undertaken from Wednesday itself,” he said.

He said he had conducted a detailed meeting with officers from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the sub-divisional officer and tehsildar of Mulshi, irrigation department, town planning department and others to chalk out an action plan for the Ramnadi. Flowing through Bavdhan, Ramnadi had wreaked havoc during the monsoon last year due to flash floods caused by illegal dumping along the course of the river. DNA had reported the illegal dumping. Based on DNA’s report, the tehsildar of Mulshi had fined people in Bavdhan Budruk for illegal dumping.

Deshmukh said he has ordered the formation of two high-level teams to conduct a complete survey of the Ramnadi. These teams will have officials from both the revenue department and the PMC.

Once the survey is completed, the revenue department would send legal notices to illegal constructions and also carry out demolition drives, if need be.
