The state is planning a massive show of strength on the eve of the first anniversary of the November 26 terror attacks in Mumbai last year. It will be in the form of a police parade which will display the latest weapons and equipments acquired after the incident. The parade will be organised on November 25 and will start from Nariman Point. It will go up to Girgaum Chowpatty or the late Tukaram Omble point.
According to the information available, the parade will highlight the police modernisation process which has taken place in response to the terror strikes. Some of state-of-art weaponry and equipments on display at the parade include - bullet-proof helmets, tactical and assault vehicles, amphibious vehicles, speed boats, mobile vehicle X-ray scanner, etc.
After the 26/11 attacks, it was observed that the state’s police force is woefully under-equipped and does not have the required arms and ammunition to even take on a team of just 10 heavily armed terrorists.
It was felt that while the terrorists were armed with assault rifles like AK47, latest revolvers and hand grenades, Mumbai police had to confront them with archaic weapons like the .303 rifle and lathis.
