A second case of polio in the last seven months at Malegaon has forced the health administration to look at ways to fight and eradicate the disease.

In spite of regular immunisation drives conducted throughout the year, Sheikh Sultan Sheikh Akil was diagnosed with polio on Thursday and admitted to the General Hospital.

Earlier, in January this year, one Mohammad Kasim Asrar Ahmed was also diagnosed with polio, and after this detection, the health department of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation conducted a door-to-door survey to locate families, which had not taken immunisation.

The survey revealed that more than 1,200 families had refused immunisation for their children.
